Debs and Errol - Songs in the Key of Geek

DOOMphones, Engage! Chapter 7: Key Change
Trying to get some mixing done before I head out for the evening. I’ve discovered two things:
The song I’m working on is in C Major, not G Major. I know this because in C Major, Autotune (well, G-Snap) doesn’t make me sound like T-Pain. Stand back, kids, we’re professionals here.

DOOMphones, Engage! Chapter 6: From Mix to MP3
New Thing will be 12 tracks long. As of today, I believe I’ve created about 80-90 mixes of these songs. That’s just what I’ve done. Rob undoubtedly has another dozen or two. With every release, we’ve learned a lot about what can, and should,be done when mixing and recording music. And even more about what we shouldn’t do.
I think this album is becoming our best...

And yet, I still write them.
The song I’m rerecording tonight has a full-on falsetto part, and a part that is supposed to hit a note that I don’t think I could find if you gave me a map and a big neon sign.

DOOMphones, Engage! Episode 2
Back recording and mixing. Glad this work week is over, finally. The goal tonight is to clean up the mix on 3 tracks, and do vocal punch-ins on another. I seem to have difficulty exactly vocal tone and timbre after months between vocal sessions on some of these tracks. If I can’t figure out how to get where i was before, I’ll be rerecording entire lines.

New Thing Learnings
Holy crap I used to really suck at labeling tracks in old recordings. Did I title the layers by instrument to make it easy?Nope. Did I have them sorted in some logical format, like rhythm section first, then guitars, then any other instruments, then vocals?Nope. Did I color code them, perchance?Nope.
Kinda making pulling out an old song and remixing it in my new DAW software a minor nightmare...

Come Undone
Still mixing the new record. I think I just cut 2 songs.
Also, Come Undone by Duran Duran seems to be my warm-up song the last couple of days. Every mixing session starts with, contains, or ends with me playing it acoustic to my own amusement. I honestly didn’t know I could play it until I started playing it. Maybe I’ll record it one day.
Even my distractions have distractions.
