Debs and Errol - Songs in the Key of Geek
Hello.  Have you met Debs and Errol? (also @debsanderrol on twitter) Debs and Errol are a duo of FAWM veterans that have joined forces to create charming, geeky music.  Their first album, the aptly titled ‘Songs in the Key of Geek’ is out now on iTunes, Amazon, and a whole ‘whack’ of other stores.  Nerdcore, Geek Rock, Pop Humor, Comedy… not sure what to call this...

DOOMphones, Engage! Chapter 7: Key Change
Trying to get some mixing done before I head out for the evening.  I’ve discovered two things: The song I’m working on is in C Major, not G Major.  I know this because in C Major, Autotune (well, G-Snap) doesn’t make me sound like T-Pain.  Stand back, kids, we’re professionals here. I have apparently sung this song enough in the car that I can rerecord the vocals in one...

DOOMphones, Engage! Chapter 6: From Mix to MP3
New Thing will be 12 tracks long.  As of today, I believe I’ve created about 80-90 mixes of these songs.  That’s just what  I’ve  done.  Rob undoubtedly has another dozen or two.  With every release, we’ve learned a lot about what can, and should,be done when mixing and recording music. And even more about what we shouldn’t do. I think this album is becoming our best...

DOOMphones, Engage! Chapter 5: The High Parts
I hate singing the high parts And yet, I still write them. The song I’m rerecording tonight has a full-on falsetto part, and a part that is supposed to hit a note that I don’t think I could find if you gave me a map and a big neon sign. Gonna be rough night, kids. -M!?

DOOMphones, Engage! Episode 2
Back recording and mixing.  Glad this work week is over, finally.  The goal tonight is to clean up the mix on 3 tracks, and do vocal punch-ins on another.  I seem to have difficulty exactly vocal tone and timbre after months between vocal sessions on some of these tracks.  If I can’t figure out how to get where i was before, I’ll be rerecording entire lines. FYI:  If you want to see...

DOOMphones: Engage
Late night after a long long day at work. Time for job #2.  Back to mixing new music.  And by ‘mixing new music’, I apparently mean ‘write a whole new section to a song’. Funny, that. New Thing, coming soon. -M!?

New Thing Learnings
Holy crap I used to really suck at labeling tracks in old recordings.  Did I title the layers by instrument to make it easy?Nope.  Did I have them sorted in some logical format, like rhythm section first, then guitars, then any other instruments, then vocals?Nope.  Did I color code them, perchance?Nope.  Kinda making pulling out an old song and remixing it in my new DAW software a minor nightmare...

Come Undone
Still mixing the new record.  I think I just cut 2 songs. Also, Come Undone by Duran Duran seems to be my warm-up song the last couple of days.  Every mixing session starts with, contains, or ends with me playing it acoustic to my own amusement.  I honestly didn’t know I could play it until I started playing it. Maybe I’ll record it one day. Even my distractions have distractions. ...

Musical Happenings #3 - 'New Thing' - New Album by...
Three years since my first solo record, I’m releasing a follow up album!  ’New Thing’ is an extension of the electronica / new wave rock from ICPTL, and features songs cowritten by some great internet musicians.   Since ‘icantplaythislive’, I’ve been writing a lot more music: two full length albums by The Really Good Pot Roast, a solo EP Rolodex, and 50+ songs during 50/90 and FAWM.  I’ve had the...

Musical Happenings #2 - Rob's Solo EP!
Rob and I have been playing music together for over a decade on and off, and have been writing and recording together somewhat earnestly over the last 3 or so years.  As I previously mentioned, I’ve had my solo daliances, but always enjoy writing with Rob.  Rob and I have different approaches to music, which tends to lead to some awesome collaborations.  But I’ve always wanted to hear what Rob...

Musical Happenings #1 - icantplaythislive...
Hi Internet.  Mark here.  Three years ago, I set myself a goal:  I’d write and record a full length album of original music.  I wasn’t sure what it would be, or how good it would be, but I’d do it.  And I did.  I spent 7 months writing, recording, rerecording, editing, mixing, and generally grinding away in the cold unfinished basement of my house.  Most of that time was in the...

Musical Happenings
Hi internet.  It’s been a little bit since our last post. We had a lot of fun with the Tumblorchestra, and we’ll be lauching the sequel soon enough. But this post isn’t about what we’ve done. This is about we’re *doing*. In the next couple of days, we’ll have announcements about several projects we have going. Put simply, we have new music coming. Prepare,...

middlemanagementlivingthedream: In which Zombie Jesus rode back into town on the back of a huge chocolate bunny that pooped colorful eggs filled with candy. Yay!  Zombie Jesus Day! I’m spending it mixing new music.  :-) Consider that an Easter Teaser. -M!?

We're on The Radio (Again)!
The Really Good Pot Roast will once again be on the radio.  This time right here in the good old US of A.  The first track from our newest CD, You Have Died of Dysentery, If You Only Knew, will be played on Don Campau’s “No Pigeonholes”.  The show can be heard on KKUP 91.5FM in the South Bay, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Bay, California.  If you’re not in that area of...
