Time to slop a ladle of egg-nog into a (clean) emesis basin and listen to some Cranqmas music. Enjoy, Cranquistadors!

There’s only 12 days until Christmas — I’m gonna go ahead and claim them as the 12 Days of Cranqmas. And here’s the official theme song — someone dies in it!

(Lyrics can be found here)

The best part of Friday the 13th is the 12 days of Cranqmas that follow.

Twenty-Four Pounds - The Really Good Pot Roast

Ever since Dr. Cranquis posted this article we’ve been messaging with him back and forth about how best to tackle it as a song.  Not a groundbreaking movement, but a fun little tune.  This is our #1 song about #2.

Anybody have any more poop jokes before we move on?

Enjoy the pool!

No. 1 swimming pool problem? It's number two! - NBC News.com

A while ago, Dr. Cranquis posted this article.  MArk and I have been threatening to write a song based on it ever since.

Things are happening.

Theme Songs by The Really Good Pot Roast.  Music for and from Tumblr.
Helms-Deep brought the funk.
Dr. Baffled had his comments on life through the blues.
Texnessa had us take the O out of country.
MMLTD pushed the industrial.
Vanpocalypse brought the metal.
Jules brought out the indie pop in us.
WomanInterrupted summoned our TMBG out with geek rock.
TLoTH reminded us why both she and 80’s synth pop are awesome.
Dr. Cranquis set an electronica mood.
Theme Songs is a collection of 9 theme songs we’ve written for (and with) some of our favorite tumblr bloggers in the last couple of months.  And now, you can download the entire album in whatever file format you want.
Ralph suggested we post the album online for people to download, and we’re doing just that.  You can get the album now for whatever price you want to pay (including free). All proceeds from this album will go directly to the American Red Cross.

As Dr. Cranquis and the Really Good Pot Roast sat around a dimly lit table on a snowy night at Cranquis’ Fortress of Cranquitude to write our holiday opus, The Twelve Days of Cranqmas, we joked about med students and how they tend to take over in teaching hospitals.  Someone, I don’t recall who, said, ‘It’s like an inquisition.  And no one expects the Med Student Inquisition.‘  A silence followed as we realized the ramifications of these words.  We nodded, and set about finishing the work at hand, knowing full well that a new task had just begun.

Today, in honor of Dr. Cranquis’ 50,000 follower milestone*, we present to you a new addition of The Cranqsterpiece Theater, featuring the voice talents of The Lady of the House, the guys from the Really Good Pot Roast, and the start of the show himself, Dr. Cranquis.

Listen with limited commercial interruption, and enjoy!

And now for something completely different.

*Dr. Cranquis is still a little bit away from 50k, but we were late with all the other milestones, so this balances out.

Mumbled Gripes (Remix) - The Really Good Pot Roast

A while ago, we wrote a theme song for Dr. Cranquis.  We’ve decided to give it a remix and repost for 2 reasons.  One, we’ve been working on theme songs recently in advance of our upcoming Tumblr Theme song Compilation with all proceeds going to the Red Cross.  Two, as a teaser for an upcoming Cranquis Project celebrating his soon-to-be 50,000th follower.  And three - we have 3 reasons for the repost.  One, Tumblr themes project, Two, Cranquis 50K project, Three, gives us more practice with our new mastering software, and Four shameless self-promotion of previous albums, DAMN!  We have 4 reasons for this post which have been listed in my previous sentence.

Mumbled Gripes, The Official Dr. Cranquis Theme, appeared on our album You Have Died of Dysentery.  CLICK HERE to visit BandCamp and download all of our albums for free!

The Really Good Pot Roast - Christmas Dinner

On the last night of Hanukkah (Chanukah, Chakakhan, Chewbacca), we decided to post a track off our new Holiday EP, A Really Good Holiday! The EP will be released on Tuesday December 18th featuring 5 new recordings from RGPR, including this track, and a special song co-written by Dr. Cranquis and the Cranquistadors!

This song seemed appropriate for tonight.  It’s a song about growing up as a Jewish kid in the 70’s and 80’s, when Christmas day meant stores were closed, TV only showed repeats and a loop of It’s a Wonderful Life, and all of your friends got awesome toys while you just sat at home, bored.  Until we went out for dinner to the only place in town that was open.

Happy Holidays from your friends in The Really Good Pot Roast.

Come back on Tuesday for A Really Good Holiday, featuring the Twelve Days of Cranqmas!

The Red Light is on…

Ladies and Gents, we’re recording.

We’ve talked about Cranqmas, and that’s happening.  What’s Cranq-mas, you ask?  Why, it’s only the 12 Day, Non-Denominational, MultiCultural, All-Inclusive, Non-Judgemental Tumblr Winter Holiday Season Enjoyment Period! We’re actively laying down the music now. We still need you help with the lyrics!  Send your gift idea in official “12 Days” format (5 golden rings, 2 turtle doves…) to the Really Good Ask Box.  You can submit an entire list, or just ideas for individual days.

This has also spurred us to write some new RGPR-styled holiday music.  We might have some new music soon.

In the meantime, send us your medical-themed Cranqmas ideas!

Tumblorchestra, ASSEMBLE!

The 12 Days of Cranq-mas

As previously mentioned, The Really Good Pot Roast and Dr. Cranquis have decided that our next great musical collaboration will celebrate the holiday season Tumblr style!  By writing the first Cranq-mas Carol.

What’s Cranq-mas, you ask?  Why, it’s only the 12 Day, Non-Denominational, MultiCultural, All-Inclusive, Non-Judgemental Tumblr Winter Holiday Season Enjoyment Period!

The band is going to write “The 12 Days of Cranq-mas” Carol.  But we’re looking for the help of all the Cranquistadors and Roastheads (Roasters? Really Good Fans?) out there in Tumblr Land.

What do you think should be the 12 gifts of Cranq-mas?  We’re trying to keep it medically themed (It is CRANQ-mas), but in a way that is accessible to both medical and non-medical folks.

Just submit your gift idea in official “12 Days” format (5 golden rings, 2 turtle doves…) to the Really Good Ask Box.  You can submit an entire list, or just ideas for individual days.  Best gift ideas will be revealed when the song is completed.  If your idea is used in the song you will receive credit (Link to your blog in the song lyrics on the final post).  Anonymous submissions are also accepted.

Let’s get Cranq-ing!

Sunday Musings with Mark

  • My showcase show is a week away!  Come see me play live! November 3rd @7pm, Music Cafe in Damascus, MD.

  • "Rehearsing Songs" is a somewhat new and strange concept to me.  Years and years (and years) ago, I was in a band, and we largely covered Top 40 songs.  In the years since, I’ve written and recorded a lot of music, but the idea of playing them live was abstract to me.  Hell, I titled my first solo album ‘icantplaythislive’. I’ve written, recorded, and moved on.  Now I’m going back and learningmy own songs.  Strange days, these.

  • Speaking of which, I have my setlist narrowed down.  It’s largely solo stuff, but I do have a Pot Roast song in there.  Trouble is, a lot of our band stuff really needs at least 2 guitars to work, or I need a lot more practice to pull off.  Now I’m trying to work on how to ‘banter’ betwixt my odd songs.

  • Cranq-mas!  Rx-Mas is coming!  Rob and I are already planning “The 12 Days of Cranq-mas” Carol.  We’ve received some great ideas, but we could use more!  What do you think should be the 12 gifts of Cranq-mas?  Just submit your gift idea in official “12 Days” format (5 golden rings, 2 turtle doves…) to the Really Good Ask Box.  You can submit an entire list, or just ideas for individual days.

Happy Sunday!
