RGPR - Dear God, Please Kill My Treadmill

Mark:  I’ve made efforts to reduce the amount of me there is, and have spent a lot of time in a love-hate relationship with a treadmill.  Rob messaged me while I was finishing up a run and made this request to write a song about wanting my treadmill struck down.  Moreso, it had to be an acoustic ballad, featuring melodica.  I obliged, because that’s how I roll.

Written and recorded over a weekend.  See below for the lyrics.

I hope you enjoy my misery.

Listen/Download/Purchase: Run by The Really Good Pot Roast

We’ve wanted to release this song for a while.  I think we’ve posted it here before, but it bears repeating.  This one is a straight ahead 70’s style guitar-forward rocker.  We had a lot of fun just stripping things back and keeping things focused on guitars, bass, and vocals here.

We hope you enjoy it.

From Mixed Signals, the newest album by The Really Good Pot Roast, available now on Bandcamp.com for pay-what-you-want.

Listen/Download/Purchase: Nerd Love by The Really Good Pot Roast

We are not the most ‘hip’ or ‘cool’ or ‘with it’ guys in the world.  Our understanding of dating is… tenuous at best.  So this song celebrates love from nerds like us.

Rinse & Repeat - The Really Good Pot Roast

I’ve been exploring the > 2,000 tones in my Line 6 PodFarm looking for interesting new sounds I could use as inspiration.  This song started when I found a few new distortions that I really liked.  As I was noodling around with the 2 new tones, the lyric, “Work, dinner, sleep.  rinse and repeat.  It’s the same old grind.”  Everything else came from that line.  My idea was a song about that feeling you get at the end of the summer when you’re at your desk at work thinking about the good old days when you had summers off in college.  The lyrics just wouldn’t come, so I sent it off to Mark and he really came through.  The lyrics really tell the story I wanted to tell but couldn’t.  He also rewrote the bridge (Which I had labeled as “Shitty Bridge is Shitty” in the project file).  I’m pleased with where this song ended up.

No. 1 swimming pool problem? It's number two! - NBC News.com

A while ago, Dr. Cranquis posted this article.  MArk and I have been threatening to write a song based on it ever since.

Things are happening.

Theme Songs by The Really Good Pot Roast.  Music for and from Tumblr.
Helms-Deep brought the funk.
Dr. Baffled had his comments on life through the blues.
Texnessa had us take the O out of country.
MMLTD pushed the industrial.
Vanpocalypse brought the metal.
Jules brought out the indie pop in us.
WomanInterrupted summoned our TMBG out with geek rock.
TLoTH reminded us why both she and 80’s synth pop are awesome.
Dr. Cranquis set an electronica mood.
Theme Songs is a collection of 9 theme songs we’ve written for (and with) some of our favorite tumblr bloggers in the last couple of months.  And now, you can download the entire album in whatever file format you want.
Ralph suggested we post the album online for people to download, and we’re doing just that.  You can get the album now for whatever price you want to pay (including free). All proceeds from this album will go directly to the American Red Cross.

THEME SONG!!!!!

The Really Good Pot Roast has written a theme for my tumblr. When asked what kind of music I enjoy, I shrieked, “‘80s Synth Pop!!!!”  Yeah, they did it right.  This is just awesome.  I’m listening and head bobbing with my eyes closed, thinking all sorts of meaningful things.

I have made the album artwork the f*cking flower that I would really like teenage girls who are into “boho” to stop reblogging. That f*cking flower now has over 14,000 notes, is being used by some UK internet shop (without my permission), is several people’s avatars, and is the bane of my internet existence. It’s like people haven’t really thought about the whole Georgia O’Keefe “sometimes a flower isn’t just a flower” thing.

Apparently Thor factors in to this tumblr a bit. That makes me happy.  Would you like some Thor with your Thor?

Seriously guys, this is awesome. I’m giggling and bouncing over here.

-TLOTH

And finally, another theme song, this time for the awesome Lady of the House. Check back with us soon for updates on our theme song album to be released on Bandcamp!

FAWM!

In the way that time does, a year has passed, and we’re here in February.  And with it, the month brings FAWM, the February Album Writing Month challenge.  28 days, 14 songs.

Last year, Rob and I both wrote music during FAWM and ‘won’ the challenge.  My music resulted in my album 'NEW THING'.  Rob’s resulted in ‘Now That You’re Here’. Both albums are available for any price (even free).

This year, we’re involved again, but probably not in the same extent.  We’ll be posting some of our new material here in the coming weeks.  Our big focus right now is cleaning up existing material for our new album later this year.  But we can’t help writing.

If you’re a songwriter and want to challenge yourself, come join us.  FAWM is a great, positive atmosphere for songwriters looking for a challenge, an outlet, a forum, trading ideas, collaboration, and constructive criticism.

See you there!

The Really Good Pot Roast - All I Want for Xmas

During the writing of the this holiday album, Mark and I had a lot of discussions about what constitutes a holiday song.  Being Jews, we are by no means Christmas music experts.  Hell, we’re not even Chanukkah song experts.  Hava Nagila is the only Chanukkah song on the album and it has nothing to do with Chanukkah (It was written in 1918 to celebrate the British victory in Palestine during WWI and the Balfour Declaration, but I digress).  I came up with the chorus while walking to the bodega to get Snickers bars for my wife and I.  Since I had no paper I sent Mark a text that read, “All I want for Christmas is a porno and a beer.  I’m sick and tired of socks and ties that I get every year.”  His reply was, “I thought you were going to get yourself the guitar for Christmas.”  N’yuk, n’yuk, n’yuk.

Enjoy!
